What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing describes what happens when services such as software, printing, video playback and web hosting are provided by a remote network of computers.  The 'cloud computing' setup allows for virtually unlimited distance between the resources needed and the computer user.

It can also result in  lower costs.  Imagine the scenario where you have to lay your own gas and water pipelines to supply your house.  This would be very expensive for everyone that wanted heating and running water.  But thankfully the gas and water suppliers have already laid the pipework to most houses in the UK.  So, you just have to pay for what comes down the pipe.  This is cloud computing in action - it allows you to save the high infrastructure costs, and just pay for what you need.
